Oleksandr Usyk once again wrote his name into the history books on Saturday night, delivering a devastating left hook to stop Dubois to reclaim his IBF heavyweight title in front of 90,000 fans in Wembley. The victory not only saw Usyk avenge the controversial stripping of his IBF belt but became the first man in the four-belt era to become three-time undisputed world champion.
From the opening bell, Usyk controlled the bout on the outside with his trademark footwork and his sharp southpaw jab. Maintaining his distance and precision counters, Dubois struggled to impose his power on the Ukrainian, not landing any clean shots.
As the rounds progressed, Usyk’s timing and movement was in full effect, slipping punches and dictating the tempo. Crisp combinations gradually took a toll on Dubois after trading blows. Despite the English man mixing up his attacks by targeting the body of Usyk, the Ukrainian had all the answers.
During the fifth round, Dubois started to push forward cornering Usyk trying to unleash his deadly fists. However, Usyk timed a perfectly placed counter right hook that sent the challenger to the canvas. After Dubois managed to get to his feet, it was the beginning of the end. Usyk smelt the finish, unleashing the same right hand that left Dubois flailing, before landing a devastating left hook that sealed the victory.
Post- Fight, What’s next?
The newly crowned undisputed champion extends his flawless record to 24 wins, 15 via knockout and no defeats. Speaking after the fight, Usyk addressed the questions surrounding his future and what’s next for him:
“Thirty-eight is a young guy remember, thirty- eight is only the start” saying humbly in front of the Wembley crowd.
When asked about potential opponents, Usyk is ready to share the ring with anyone in the division:
“Maybe Tyson Fury? Maybe Derick Chisora? Anthony Joshua or even Joseph Parker? I don’t know” as he asked the crowd.
“I want to go home to my family, to my wife and my children. I went to rest, but maybe two-three months. I want to rest”.
With yet another masterclass in skill, composure, and finishing ability, Oleksandr Usyk has not only reclaimed his place at the top of the heavyweight division but has also cemented his legacy. By becoming the first three-time undisputed champion, Usyk is already putting his name among the greats.
