The early kick off in Game Week Four saw Nottingham Forrest travel to The Emirates Stadium, marking the new era for Forrest under Ange Postecoglou.
From the first minute, Arsenal took control of the proceedings, passing it fluently around a compact Forrest defence. However, there was early concern for Arteta as his captain, Martin Odegaard had to be replaced on the 15th minute mark, due to a falling uncomfortably on his right shoulder. The young exciting Ethan Nwaneri took his place as Gabriel became the captain.
Despite the setback, Arsenal was straight back to business as they grabbed the opening goal in the 32ndminute. A moment of brilliance came from a right footed Martin Zubimendi volley. A failed headed clearance from Forrest from the corner fell beautifully for the Spaniard and rifled the ball into the top right corner of Matz Sels goal.
The afternoon didn’t get any better for the travelling fans after Murrilo had to be subbed off before half time due to a leg injury.
The second half saw a blistering start from the Gunners as fans were still getting back to their seats. A straight long ball from Ricardo Calafiori found Eberechi Eze isolated one on one down the left flank. A low driven ball across the face of the goal found the waiting Viktor Gyokeres who tapped it home to double the lead in the 46thminute.
Forrest’s only chance of the game came in the 70th minute after a powerful cross from Dan Ndoye hit Chris Wood unexpectedly on the chest and hit the crossbar, which left Raya scrambling.
The game was sealed in the 79th minute as Zubimendi grabbed his second of the game as he finished a lovely worked freekick. A short passing move found Trossard on the left side of the box who curled an in-swinging cross which fell on the head of the midfielder.A very professional performance from start to finish for the men in red on Saturday lunch time. Mikel Arteta was able to showcase the new depth he now possesses, with the lights of Nwaneri, Rice, Trossard, Martinelli and Miles Lewis-Skelly all featuring from the bench today. Arsenal now currently sit on top of the table with nine points from four games
