Hull City earn their third consecutive victory in the Sky Bet championship after pushing aside the foxes 2-1 at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Tigers started the match with an intensity that the visitors struggled to match. Within five minutes, Kyle Joseph almost opened the scoring after forcing a fingertip save from Jakub Stolarczyk that deflected onto the post after silky footwork by Liam Miller created the chance.
Moments later, City scored the opener. A quick counter attack began with Amir Hadziahmetovic threading the ball down the right wing to Josh Geldhardt, who drove into the the box before cutting the ball back to Matt Crooks. The midfielder slipped at the crucial moment, but the ball rolled perfectly for Miller, who opened his body and calmly curled the ball into the top right corner making it 1-0 in the 6th minute.
Hull doubled their lead on the half-hour mark through nice link up play down the left flank again. A combination of passes between Miller and Reagan Slater released the ball to Ryan Giles at the byline, whose driven cross found Geldhardt unmarked at the back post for a simple tap-in.
Leicester’s second half substitutions injected fresh energy with Aaron Ramsey and 16 year old Jeremy Monga introduced. Despite dominating 60% possession in the first half, the Foxes lacked hythm and conviction, but that changed after the break.
The visitors eventually got on the scoreboard in the 67th minute through a moment of brilliance. A long flat pass from Jannie Vestergaard found Jordan Ayew with his back to goal whose layoff set up the substitute Ramsey who struck it first time into the top right corner clipping the underside of the crossbar on its way in.
Not long left in the game, the Foxes became desperate, hunting for the equaliser. After dynamic wing play from Abdul Fatuwu beating three defenders, he found Harry Winks. The Englishman whipped the ball first time and smashed against the crossbar, saving Hull City.
The Tigers held on and managed to get their third consecutive championship win, beating Birmingham City and Sheffield United in previous weeks. Hull City move above Leicester in the table and now sit in seventh place, tied with fifth place Stoke with 18 points.
